Addy Perez Was a Drill Sergeant Leader
Before her career in law enforcement at Richland, she was a Drill Sergeant Leader in the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant Academy. She grew up in the Bronx borough of New York City.
Perez has many family members who are officers in the New York Police Department. But she wanted to become a veterinarian rather than a cop.
In an interview with The State, she said she wanted to be different and see if she could succeed without the military and law enforcement.
In 2008, she joined the U.S. Army Reserves. Well, she had served in Afghanistan and also in Texas before coming to Fort Jackson in 2014, when she was accepted as a drill sergeant leader.

What Made Her Become a Police Officer after Serving in the Military?
After leaving active duty as a Drill Sergeant, Perez, a big favorite on the show (Live PD)—joined Richland County. It was an easy transition for her from the military into law enforcement.
During an interview with A&E, she said they have similar structures and environments. She came from law enforcement and military folks.
In addition, she has a lot of friends, cousins, uncles, and aunts with the New York Police Department. Therefore, it was easier for her to enter it because she was also more familiar with the environment.
In the end, Addy has returned to her usual job. It is not known what her new job was and the reason behind her decision to return.
