Born on December 30, 1971, in Evanston, Illinois, USA, Sunjata was adopted by a white couple when he was two months old. The actor was told his father was Black and his mother was a White teen-runaway.
So, Sunjata had issues with prejudice, tolerance, and identity from an early age. It was tough for the actor growing up for the actor as a “half-breed” in a White neighborhood in Chicago.
When speaking about his mother with the New York Times, Daniel Sunjata said, ”I never met the woman, but I feel a real gratitude to my mother for making the decision she did, giving me up for adoption instead of raising me herself, or aborting me,” he said.
”Otherwise, I might not even exist. And I certainly wouldn’t be here.”
